Frequently asked questions

Can people use Mailboxes or only automated systems?
Couchdrop doesn’t discriminate between people and automated systems, so anything sent to the unique Mailbox address will function. We recommend using Mailboxes when emailing attachments is the only option, as Upload Links and SFTP are more secure.
Are Mailboxes secure?
Sending files by email is less secure than other methods, but once the files arrive in the Mailbox, they use the same end-to-end encryption and enterprise-grade security as the rest of the Couchdrop platform.
Is there an attachment size limit?
Mailboxes can handle attachments up to 25MB in size, which is also the limit that many email providers can send. For larger files, we recommend using Upload Links or SFTP endpoints, which can handle much larger files.
Where is the email itself saved?
Mailboxes only extract and save attachments. The email body and other content is not extracted or saved. Emails without attachments are discarded.
What happens if an unauthorized sender sends an attachment?
If an email that’s not on the allow list sends to the Mailbox, nothing will happen. The attachment will not be uploaded to the directory, and no notification will go out to any party.
Can I have multiple email inboxes?
Yes, you can create multiple Mailboxes and each one can be connected to a different storage location. Each Mailbox counts as one endpoint, and you can add as many endpoints as your plan allows.
