Integrate Azure Blob with Couchdrop

How it works

Couchdrop connects natively to Azure Blob so teams can expose an Azure container through Couchdrop as a secure, managed file transfer location.

Once connected, the Azure Blob container appears as a folder in Couchdrop. Users can upload, download, list, create, and delete files and folders according to the access rules you configure in Couchdrop.

This is useful when Azure Blob is your system of record for files, but customers, partners, or internal teams need access through SFTP, FTP, FTPS, Automations, or Couchdrop’s web interface. Couchdrop acts as the secure access layer in front of Azure Blob, with folder-level permissions, user management, and auditing.

Couchdrop connects to Azure Blob over Microsoft’s REST API. Files are transferred through Couchdrop, but are not stored at rest on Couchdrop infrastructure.

Capabilities

  • Use Azure Blob containers as a source or destination for secure file transfers
  • List, Create, Modify, and Delete files in Blob containers from Couchdrop
  • Access files in Azure Blob Containers via FTP, SFTP, FTPS, or through the Couchdrop interface
  • Apply granular folder permissions for different users
  • Authenticate with either an Azure access key or SAS token
  • Automate file transfers and file processing with Azure Blob files

Getting started

  1. Confirm you have an active Azure Storage Account and an Azure Blob container to connect.
  2. If required, create a container in the Azure Portal under Storage accounts → Containers, using private access where possible.
  3. Choose your authentication method: an access key for simpler setup, or a SAS token for more scoped access.
  4. Collect the required Azure details: storage account name, container name, and either the access key or SAS token.
  5. In Couchdrop, click Create, then Connect to Storage, and choose Azure Blob.
  6. Select the Couchdrop folder where the Azure Blob container should be presented.
  7. Enter the Azure storage account name, container name, and authentication details.
  8. Optionally choose a specific folder within Azure Blob to expose through Couchdrop.
  9. Save the connection, then test by listing, uploading, and downloading files through the mapped Couchdrop folder.
