Send Couchdrop notifications and approval requests to Slack

Couchdrop can send Automation Workflow notifications and Transfer Shield approval requests directly to Slack channels.

The Slack integration lets you send custom messages at specific points in a workflow, report when an entire workflow succeeds or fails, and notify a channel when a file needs approval.

If your team uses Slack to coordinate work, these updates can sit alongside the conversations about the files and processes they manage.

Add Slack notifications to workflow branches

The Custom Notification action lets you choose a Slack channel and write a message for a specific point in an Automation Workflow.

You can add the action to any branch, including conditional branches and failure-handling paths. Each notification can have its own destination channel and message, so different teams receive the updates relevant to their work.

For example, a workflow could transfer files to cloud storage, then notify the team responsible for processing them. A conditional branch could send a separate message when a file meets an exception condition, while a failure-handling branch alerts the operations team when an action fails.

You decide where the notification belongs and what recipients need to know.

Include context in each message

Custom Slack messages support Automation Variables, allowing you to include information from the workflow in the notification.

A message could identify the filename, the uploading user, or a custom value extracted earlier in the workflow. This gives the receiving team more context than a fixed message saying that an action has completed.

The same notification action can produce a message specific to each execution, using the values available when the workflow runs.

Report workflow success or failure

You can also configure Slack notifications for the final outcome of an entire workflow.

Success notifications confirm that the workflow completed successfully. Failure notifications let the relevant team know that the workflow failed.

These notifications serve a different purpose from a Custom Notification action. A custom message reports what happened at a particular stage or branch; a workflow notification reports the overall result. You can use both when your team needs updates during a process as well as confirmation at the end.

Send Transfer Shield approval requests to a channel

Transfer Shield can send an approval request to a selected Slack channel when a policy or rule group triggers an approval.

Slack requests can be used alongside email notifications. This makes pending approval tasks visible in the channel where the responsible team coordinates its work.

Connect Slack to Couchdrop

Add Slack from Integrations and Platforms in the Couchdrop admin panel. The connection uses a custom Slack app installed in your workspace and its Bot User OAuth Token.

Once connected, fetch the available channels and test the connection. You can then configure Slack notifications in Automation Workflows and approval requests in Transfer Shield.
