Couchdrop now supports Microsoft’s Government Community Cloud (GCC) with full support for SharePoint in GCC environments. This update will make secure file transfers for US public sector and government-adjacent organizations easier and is fully supported by Couchdrop.
Office 365 and Office 365 GCC differences
While commercial O365 and O365 GCC share a lot of the same core functionality, there are some differences between the two that make GCC suitable for certain government organizations, mostly with stricter requirements and restrictions.
Microsoft highlights the following key differences between Office 365 and Office 365 Government offerings:
- Your organization's customer content is logically segregated from customer content in Microsoft's commercial Office 365 Services.
- Your organization's customer content is stored within the United States.
- Access to your organization's customer content is restricted to screened Microsoft personnel.
- Office 365 Government complies with certifications and accreditations that are required for US Public Sector customers.
Because of these differences, connecting to SharePoint with a GCC endpoint is different from standard SharePoint and follows a slightly different process.

Connecting to SharePoint in a GCC environment with Couchdrop
Connecting to SharePoint with a GCC endpoint mostly follows the same process as connecting to commercial SharePoint:
- Log in to Couchdrop and choose to add a new Storage Integration, then pick SharePoint
- Name the Integration and give a name for the Couchdrop folder connecting to the GCC Endpoint.
- Under Endpoint Type, change from Default to GCC.
- A Tenant Domain field will appear. Use the domain for the GCC endpoint here, following the example URL structure.
- Authorize and test the connection and optionally choose a subfolder within the SharePoint account as the root.
The SharePoint GCC connection is available to use now and can integrate with Couchdrop workflows and other features.
